Obituary

Alan L. Eddy, 76, of Mendota died
April 11, 2014, in Rockford Memorial
Hospital.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m.
Saturday in Mendota Civic Center. The
Rev. Ken Foster will officiate. Burial
will be at Melugin Cemetery.
Visitation will be
one hour prior to services
Saturday in the
civic center. Merritt
Funeral Home is
assisting the family.
Mr. Eddy was
born Nov. 5, 1937,
in Compton to
Clifford and Mildred
(Archer) Eddy.
He married Tish
Withrow on Dec. 26,
1959, in Paw Paw.
Alan graduated from Mendota High
School in 1955 and remained allegiant
to Trojans sports programs until his
death. Alan retired from Caterpillar in
Aurora after 35 years of loyal employment.
Alan was entrenched in his community.
He was a 24-year veteran of
Compton Volunteer Fire Department.
He was a Little League manager for 13
years and a member of both Compton
Methodist Church and Compton
Community Club.
Alan was a die-hard Cubs and Bears
fan. He liked viewing classic cars and
enjoyed socializing on Facebook. The
earth has lost a wonderful man, but
heaven has a new hymn-humming, family
loving, Chicago sports fan.
He is survived by his wife; one
daughter, Tammy (Jean) Gordon of
Bradenton, Fla.; one son, Martin Eddy
of West Brooklyn; two grandchildren,
Asya (Fred) Stolz and Beau Gordon;
two great-grandchildren, Jackson and
Parker Stolz; one brother, Larry (Susan)
Eddy of West Brooklyn; and two sisters,
Doloris Daw of Mendota and Norma
(Bud) Haefner of Las Vegas, Nev.
He was preceded in death by one
brother, Arthur.

Mendota Area Senior Services and
Compton Fire Department.
