Alan C. Schammel, 78, of Compton, passed away peacefully at Allure of Mendota on June 4, 2024 from cancer.

Alan was born September 8, 1945 in Mendota to Charles and Ethel (Kleckner) Schammel. He married Sandra Harcharik  on May 19, 1973.

He loved spending time fishing and hunting. His favorite place to fish was Nemeiben Lake in Saskatchewan Canada. When he wasn't fishing, he was tending to his garden and multiple flower beds. He started working at HCC in Mendota when he graduated from Mendota High School and he worked there for 49 years before retiring.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years Sandra Schammel, his children Shelley (John Riley) Schammel, Adam (Keisha) Schammel, Samantha (Garrett) Peterson, his grandchildren Cody Bisgrove, Seth Peterson, Trytten (Patricia) Gamble, his great grandson Stetsen Gamble and his brothers and sisters Howard Schammel, Doug (Karen) Schammel, Eileen Weber and Sue (Dave) Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Dorothy Prewitt, sister in law Marion Schammel and brother in law Delbert Weber.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota is assisting the family.
