Alberta E. Goebel, 100, of Mendota died January 5, 2018 in the Mendota Lutheran Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota with Rev. Janet Lepp officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday in the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.
Alberta was born August 8, 1917 in Mendota to O.C. and Maude (Greenbaum) Winters. She married John A. Goebel on June 29, 1941 in St. John's Lutheran Church. He preceded her on March 14, 1999.
She was a 1935 graduate of Mendota High School and went on to the University of Chicago and Pestalozzi-Froebel School, Chicago where she received her teaching certificate. She began her teaching career in Kewanee and later she taught at Northbrook and Lincoln Grade Schools in Mendota before her retirerment.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, served on the church council and was a member of the Sewing Circle and the Rachel Circle. She was a volunteer with the Red Cross Blood Drive and the Mendota Community Hospital. She was a co-author of Mendota's 125th Anniversary book, Tracks of Time. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters Diane (David) Campbell of Lincoln, Kathleen (Craig) Copper of Batavia and one son, John "Jeff" (Sue) Goebel of Nellysford, VA; six grandchildren, Andrew and Paul Copper, Mali and John Goebel, Melissa Remolina and Jennifer Read; seven great-grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded by one sister.
