Alice H. Weitzel, 86, of Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Mendota died Oct. 19, 2008, in the nursing home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Compton, with the Rev. Dale Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to services Saturday in the church. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, provided the arrangements. She was born Dec. 19, 1921, in Whitestone, Long Island, N.Y., to John Douglas and Laura Augusta Elizabeth (Gerlach) Sugden. She married Wayne C. Weitzel on Sept. 10, 1949. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, farmed with her husband and worked at Spurgeons Department Store in Mendota. She was a past-president of Compton American Legion Auxiliary Post 657. She is survived by her son, Charles P. (LaVonne) Ciorba Jr. of Portland, Ore.; one daughter, Jacqueline S. (Frederik) Klauer of Australia; three grandsons; one granddaughter; and two great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her husband. Memorials may be directed to College Student Scholarship Fund of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
