Obituary

Alma A. Zimmerman, 96, of Mendota Lutheran Home, formerly of Compton, died April 8, 2010. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Compton, with the Rev. Jamie Wallace officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. She was born March 30, 1914, in Mendota Township to John and Anna Marie (Walter) Kaufman. She graduated from Mendota High School in June 1932. She married Gilbert J. Zimmerman on Feb. 6, 1936, in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Compton. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America where she made many quilts for Lutheran World Relief, and was a former Sunday school teacher. She also was a member of Mendota Lutheran Home Auxiliary and Lee County Farm Bureau. She is survived by one son, Allan (Elaine) Zimmerman of Paw Paw; one daughter, Charlene Zimmerman of Compton; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 26, 1982; one brother, her twin sister and two other sisters. Memorials may be directed to Horizon House, Immanuel Lutheran Church or Mendota Lutheran Home.
