Alvin T. McGill, 79, of Triumph died Sept. 14, 2007, in Mendota Community Hospital. Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. today in Holy Cross Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Fredi Gomez Torres officiating. Burial will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, was in charge of arrangements. Mr. McGill was born Sept. 11, 1928, in Shabbona to Thomas and Zoe (Mills) McGil. He married Germaine Plotz on Nov. 19, 1949, in Cicero. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and worked as a foreman for the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad for 13 years. He later served as a mail carrier and retired from the Kewanee post office as the postmaster. He was a member of Holy Cross Church, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Thomas McGill of Warrenville and James (Carol) McGill of Mendota; one daughter, Janice (Herbert) Janowicz of Warrenville; eight grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; five brothers, Kenneth (Grace) McGill of Yorkville, Veryle (Pat) McGill of Berwyn, Melvin (Joann) McGill of Beardstown, Richard (Joann) McGill of Golden and Marvin McGill of Galesburg; four sisters, Mary Bishop of White Plains, Mo., Betty Smith of Golden, Nellie Danmire of Golden and Vera Hawk of Washington. He was preceded in death by one sister.
