Archie E. Bradford, 90, of Mendota died Oct. 30, 2011, in Mendota Community Hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. Kent Svendsen officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota with military rites by VFW Post 4079. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. He was born Dec. 24, 1920, in Weber Township to Charles and Bertha (Boykin) Bradford. He married Doris Rogers in 1958 in Sparland. He served with the U.S. Army in World War II. He was engaged in farming and then employed by Del Monte in their farm shop. He is survived by four sons, Ken (Rose) Harlow of Mendota, Brad (Sandy) Bradford of Mendota, Jon (Deborah) Bradford of Mendota, and Jan (Tara) Bradford of Peru; two daughters, Linda (Larry) Walter of Missouri and Sherry Shaver of Earlville; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Schmidt of Mendota and Ruth Jacobs of Orangeville, Wis. He was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 10, 1986; one son, Bill Scheppers; brothers Ralph and Jim and one brother in infancy. Memorials may be directed to Illinois Valley Animal Rescue.
