Obituary

Adelbert L. "Bert" Wise, 87 passed away peacefully at Heritage Health, Mendota on August 8, 2019.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Mendota with Rev. Mary Bohall officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery, Mendota with military rites by Mendota VFW Post 4079. Visitation will be Monday from 9:30-11:00 a.m., in the church. Arrangements are being handled by Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.

Bert was born on December 27, 1931 in Waterman to the late Irving A. and Marium M. (Foreman) Wise. Bert married his beloved wife, Diana L. Prenctice on May 1, 1954 at First United Methodist Church in Paw Paw. They just celebrated their 65 th wedding anniversary this past May.

He graduated from Paw Paw High School and lettered in Varsity basketball as a Paw Paw Bulldog. Bert served in the US Army from 1952-1954 where he was stationed in Korea.

Bert was a partner in M & E TV for many years, selling and repairing many Zenith TVs and other appliances throughout the Mendota area.   He enjoyed watching and coaching sports with his sons and grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening and never passed up a garage sale or auction.   Bert was a member of the Mendota American Legion, VFW, Elks and a life-long member of the Methodist Church; 60 of those years attending the First United Methodist Church in Mendota.

Survivors include his wife; four children, Michael L. Wise (Debra Doden) of Morton, Jody D. Mitchell (Timothy) of Dixon, Mark A. Wise (Jo Kleckner) and Scott W. Wise (Beth Blomberg) both of Mendota; 14 grandchildren, Grace Mitchell, Aaron Wise, Jenny O'Dowd (Brian), Kyle Wise, Ashley O'Brien Roux (Nathan), Cooper O'Brien, Keaton O'Brien, Jared Wise (Tammy Phalen), Nicholas Wise, Garrett Wise, Cale Wise, Maren Wise, Kyle Mitchell (Katie), and Cayli Mitchell and 7 great grandchildren, Madeline Wise, Maya Wise, Kaitlyn O'Dowd, Allison O'Dowd, Maddison Roux, Carly Roux, and Dean Mitchell.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Johnson and brother, William Wise as well as his parents.
