Bessie Fries, 78, of Mendota died Aug. 29, 2008, in Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Mendota. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. Michael Morrell officiating. Interment will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota, following cremation rites. Visitation is one hour prior to services Thursday in the funeral home. She was born Jan. 18, 1930, in Bridgewater Township, Pa., to Cecil and Nellie (Stone) Chamberlin. She married Robert Fries in 1971. She was employed by Hi-Way Cafe and Parkway Restaurant in Mendota before her retirement. She is survived by her husband, Robert of Mendota; two sons, John (Carol) Sullivan Jr. of Herkimer, N.Y., and Larry Sullivan of Sidney, N.Y.; six grandchildren; 18 greatgrandchildren; and one brother, Charles Chamberlin of Waterville, N.Y. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, one brother and five sisters. Memorials may be directed to the family.
