Betty Jean Avery, 92, of Mendota, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Heritage Health, Mendota.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 1 at Restland Cemetery in Mendota with Pastor Kent Svendsen officiating. There will be no visitation. Merritt Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Betty was born on November 12, 1923 in Dixon, IL and was raised in Compton, IL. Betty married F. Robert "Bob" Avery in April 27, 1942 in Missouri. Bob and Betty lived in Mendota, where they raised two children, Donald R. and James E. Avery.
Betty was a parishioner at First United Methodist Church, Mendota. She worked side by side with Bob and ran their business Avery Fertilizer and Trucking, in Mendota. They enjoyed spending free time in Lake Mills, WI., taking road trips to Florida, and snowmobiling with their friends.
Betty is survived by her granddaughter, Melissa Cassidy and great-grandsons Jack and Cole, of Naperville; grandson, Matt Avery and great-grandchildren Reiss, Ryann and Trevor, of Mendota, and grandson, Mike (Erica) Avery and great-grandchildren Caleb and Elspeth of Middleton, WI.
Betty was preceded in death by her mother, Irene Rebecca (Young) Bauer, her father, Albert Lewis Bauer, her husband, Bob in 2009, and her beloved sons, Don and Rev. James.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be donated to First United Methodist Church.
