Betty J. Griswold, 83, of Mendota died Oct. 3, 2011, in her home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Michael Morrell officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation is 1-4 p.m. Sunday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. She was born Aug. 15, 1928, in Monticello, Ind., to Hugo and Ethel (Buckles) Kraud. She married Arthur Griswold on Aug. 7, 1949, in Monticello. She graduated from St. Luke's Nursing School in Chicago and worked at Crippled Children's Hospital in Chicago. She retired from Mendota Community Hospital in 1997. She was a member of United Methodist Women, a past member ofOrder of the Eastern Star and was named Woman of the Year in 1983 by the Business and Professional Women's Club. She is survived by four sons, Kirk (Anastacia) Griswold of the Philippines, Jeffrey (Andrea) Griswold of Mendota, Michael Griswold of Rockford and Bradley (Debbie) Griswold of Fallbrook, Calif.; one daughter, Lori Ann (Joe) Tanis of Traverse City, Mich.; one niece, Nia Bagley of Arlington, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and one grandson. Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church or VITAS.
