Beverley J. Moore, 97, peacefully passed away April 27, 2024, at Stonecroft Village of Mendota.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 2, 2024 at First United Methodist Church, Mendota with Rev. Sandy Smith officiating. Visitation will be held at the Church from 9:30 AM until time of services. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota is assisting the family.
Bev was born July 23, 1926 in Mendota; the daughter of Frank E. and Elsie E. Bernard Moore.
Surviving are her nephews Phil (Jean) Scheidenhelm, Lewis (Connie) Moore, and niece Carol Scheidenhelm Elmore. Great nephew, Scott (Denee') Scheidenhelm and their children Delaney and Duncan. Great niece Dr. Tamara (Eric) Walls, and children Nick Boore and Cassie (Derek) Boyer. Bev will be remembered by many fellow teachers, Church Friends and golf enthusiasts.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen and brother, Lewis who died prior to her birth. Her parents; brother Darwin "Buck" and sister-in-law Mildred (Frey) Moore; brother-in-law Harold W. Scheidenhelm and sister Frances Moore Scheidenhelm, along with many Bernard first cousins.
Bev attend Mendota schools and furthered her education graduating from Western Illinois University in 1949 with a physical education teaching degree. Her teaching career began at Farmington, Illinois junior high school. She then taught P.E. at Wethersfield, Kewanee,Illinois. Bev began teaching P.E. in Mendota schools in the mid 50's and left Mendota H.S. in 1963 to pursue a Master's Degree in guidance and counseling at Northern Illinois University and Illinois State University. She was a dormitory residence counselor at both universities retiring in the 1980's. Bev was a lifelong member of the Methodist faith, and where ever she lived, was very active in church activities. She was also an avid golfer and played into her 90's.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to First United Methodist Church, Mendota or the Mendota Museum Historical Society.
