Obituary

Bonnie Ruth Price, 72, died Aug. 27, 2016, in OSF St. Anthony's Medical Center, Rockford. A memorial visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.

She was born Nov. 13, 1943, in Charleston to J.W. and Manilda (Trost) Price.

She graduated from Mendota High School in 1961, and in 1965, married her college sweetheart, Peter Coebergh, after earning her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Illinois Wesleyan University. The couple eventually settled in Menlo Park, Calif. They were married 37 years.

She reconnected with her MHS classmate Kent Carnahan at their 40th class reunion. In 2002, she moved to Compton, where she and Kent enjoyed life on his family farm.

Bonnie was a dedicated RN, primarily in cardiac intensive care, until retiring in 2003. Since then, she volunteered as a court-appointed special advocate for children, and lent her nursing skills to the Trinity Healthcare of Mendota free clinic in Nightengale's Thrift Shop. Her other passions included reading, book clubs, knitting, folk art and beautifully and graciously hosting gatherings for friends or family, as well as travel, including an annual camping trip with her sisters and mother. "Shall we play a game?" was a familiar suggestion, as she set out cards for bridge or euchre, or perhaps Trivial Pursuit. She went skydiving for the second time in August.

She is survived by her life companion and best friend, Kent Carnahan; his daughters, Margo (Steve) Ban of Palatine, Paige (Patrick) Nussbaumer of Wheaton and Whitney (Dustin) Carnahan-Lemmon of Davenport, Iowa; five grandchildren; sisters Annette (Glenn) Swichtenberg of Bloomington, Jean (Kenneth) Keown of Marshalltown, Iowa; Kay (Britt) Hanson of Minneapolis, Minn.; a brother Mike (Mona) Price of Dove Creek, Colo.; 10 nieces and nephews, 13 great-nieces and great-nephews, two great-great-nephews; and her beloved dog, Zeke.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Edwin and Alan Price; and nephew John Keown.

Memorials may be directed to Trinity Healthcare of Mendota Free Clinic.
