Brenda G. Wakefield, 57, of Mendota died March 22, 2014, in St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Zion United Methodist Church, Mendota with the Rev. Deana Mede officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. She was born March 12, 1957, in Brinkley, Ark., to William and Marie (Edmiston) Watkins. She married John Wakefield on Aug. 29, 1976, in Malta. A graduate of Sycamore High School, she was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, Mendota. She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Kelly Lynn Wakefield of Sterling; a nephew, Seth Wakefield who lived with them; two grandchildren, Calvin and Samuel Sondgeroth; three brothers, Bill Watkins of Tripoli, Wis., John Watkins of Jonesboro, Ark., and Billy Watkins of Collinsville, Okla.; and four sisters, Pat Valentine of Loves Park, Martha Seldal of Collinsville, Okla., Shirley Solt of Sperry, Okla., and Dorothy Holcomb of Rockford. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Caroline. Memorials may be directed to Zion United Methodist Church or the donor's choice.
