Obituary

Dr. Carl J. Wacker, 78, of Mendota died Jan. 1, 2011, in his home. A memorial service will be at a later date. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, provided the arrangements. He was born April 26, 1932, in La Salle to Carl F. and Helen (Staldorf) Wacker. He married Sandra Lanigan on Oct. 10, 1957. He graduated from La Salle-Peru Township High School and La Salle-Peru- Oglesby Junior College in 1951. He received a bachelor of science degree in medicine from the University of Illinois in 1956. He received a degree in psychiatry from the University of Iowa in 1969 and was a member of American Psychiatric Association. He served four years with the U.S. Air Force. He and his brother, Dr. John Wacker, ran a family medicine practice in Mendota. He was a founding member of Mendota Rotary Club and remained a member for more than 30 years. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Julie (Ronald) Schultz of Verona, Wis.; one son, Philip (Catherine) Wacker of Rockford; two grandchildren; and one brother, John Wacker of Mendota. He was preceded in death by one son, Benjamin Paul; one grandson; and two sisters, Mary and Helen. Memorials can be directed to Boy Scout Troop 102, Mendota, in care of Merritt Funeral Home.
