Carol J. Ehlers 81, of Peru and formerly of Mendota, died April 1, 2014, in Manor Court, Peru.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Peru, with the Rev. Timothy Kenyon officiating. Burial will be at Clarion Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
She was born May 22, 1932, in Mendota to Elman and Mabel (Hild) Pohl. She married Gaylon Ehlers on Jan. 20, 1984, in Geneva.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Peru and very involved in church functions. She was a great cook, loved to paint, enjoyed reading, playing board games and hosting family gatherings.
She is survived by her husband, Gaylon of Peru; three daughters, Gail (Dave Nelson) Fitzsimmons of Geneva, Pam Driessen of Geneva and Andrea (Ben) Waldie of Geneva; one son, Glen Fitzsimmons of Marshall, Mich.; two stepsons, Brad (Mary) Ehlers of Sublette and Brent Ehlers of Omaha, Neb.; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Cynthia (Jim) Walzer of Rockford; and two brothers, George (Mina) Pohl and John (Ronda) Pohl, both of Mendota.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Dawn West, and the father of her children, Richard Fitzsimmons.
