Caroline Zapf Stoner, 96, of Mendota Lutheran Home died Feb. 6, 2008, in the home. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. Dale Peterson officiating. Burial will be at St. John?s Lutheran Cemetery, Mendota. There will be no visitation. She was born June 16, 1911, in Mendota to Henry and Mary (Langlitz) Zapf. She married H. Ronald Stoner on Nov. 11, 1944, in Evanston. She graduated from Mendota High School and then attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago with her sister where she stayed on to work as a fashion artist. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Stoner returned to live in Mendota where she was a member of St. John?s Lutheran Church. She is survived by two nieces; two nephews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976; eight brothers and sisters; two nephews and one niece. Memorials may be directed to St. John?s Lutheran Church or the donor?s choice.
