Carolyn Marie Downey, 85, peacefully passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at her daughter's home in Earlville, Illinois.  Carolyn was born in Michigan City, Indiana to William C. and Dorothy D. (Sampson) Kuszmaul on February 19, 1940, number eight out of nine children.  On May 5th, 1961, she married Kenneth L. Downey in Michigan City, Indiana.

Carolyn is survived by her three children: Deborah (William) Martin of Earlville, IL, Joanna Downey of Bemidji, MN and Jonathan (Brenda) Downey of Perkasi, PA; sister, Elsie (Glen) Burns of Michigan City, IN; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren with another one on the way.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; son, Timothy Downey; daughter, Susanna Collins; granddaughter, Cassandra Martin and seven siblings:

Cremation care has been provided by the Horner-Merritt Funeral Home.  Memorial visitation will be 2:00 - 4:00 PM, Monday, April 21, 2025 at the Presbyterian Church in Earlville, IL with a celebration of life at 4:00 PM after the visitation.  A memorial service will also be held Friday, May 16, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Calvery Chapel, Bemidji, MN at a later date.  Visit www.hornermerritt.com to sign the online guest book.
