Carroll W. Van Norden, 72, of LaMoille died July 27, 2009, in his residence. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Community United Methodist Church, LaMoille, with the Rev. Martha Wendel-Caputo officiating. Burial will be at Greenfield Cemetery, LaMoille, with military rites by VFW Post 4079. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Mr. Van Norden was born March 18, 1937, in Grinnell, Iowa, to Casey J. and Leona (Wynn) Van Norden. He married Gladys Ward on April 20, 2002, in LaMoille. He served with the U.S. Army and was discharged in March 1966. He was a truck driver for 36 years before retirement. He was a musician playing with two traveling bands, The Moonlighters and The Vagabonds. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Jackie (John Leeper) Meyer of Blairstown, Iowa; one stepdaughter, Deborah (Bill) Bradley of LaMoille; two stepsons, Jim (Andrea) Schwingle of Peru and Dave (Maryanne) Schwingle of LaMoille; 10 grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; one brother, Ray (Sharon) Van Norden of Belle Plaine, Iowa; and three sisters, Joyce (Cliff) Anthony of Brooklyn, Iowa, Mary (George) Gutierrez of DeKalb and Connie (Jim) Kasel of Belle Plaine. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Memorials may be directed to LaMoille Ambulance Service or Community United Methodist Church.
