Cassandra Lee Truckenbrod, 67, of Mendota passed away Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria following complications from cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mendota. Burial will take place in Restland Cemetery in Mendota. Visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Merritt Funeral Home in Mendota. Cassandra was born on Feb. 27, 1944, in Streator, Ill., to Robert and Elaine (Dougherty) Delong. She married Thomas Truckenbrod March 13, 1965, in Dwight, Ill. She graduated from the Mercy Hospital of Nursing in Urbana, Ill., and worked as a registered nurse in various healthcare facilities in North Central Illinois. She retired from nursing in 2009. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. During the rearing of her children, she was primarily a homemaker and was active as a Scouting and 4-H leader and assisted with the confirmation program at St. John's Lutheran Church. She is survived by her husband of Mendota; two sons, Steven Truckenbrod of Durham, N.C., and Todd (Julie) Truckenbrod of Hibbing, Minn.; three grandchildren, Keirnan, Kyllianne and Kaine; three brothers, Gary (Bev) Delong, Randy (Cindy) Delong and David "Poke" (Sue) Delong, all of Dwight, Ill.; two sisters, Judy (Steven) Russell of Tulsa, Okla., and Sharon (Thomas) Baumann of Jacksonville, Fla.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one nephew. Memorials may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.
