Charles H. Baker, 90, of rural Mendota died July 23, 2008, in Mendota Community Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. The Rev. Roy Backus will officiate. Burial will be at Waltham Cemetery, Waltham Township. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of services in the funeral home. Mr. Baker was born Dec. 8, 1917, in McNabb to Charles C. and Lucille (Noll) Baker. He married Dorothy Newcomer on Sept. 19, 1945. He owned Baker Gravel Co. in Troy Grove and farmed in Troy Grove Township. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and was involved in 4-H. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Arlene (Gary) Bauer of La Salle, Sandra (Steve) Morris of Chillicothe and Cathy Jacobs of Utica; one son, Edwin (Judy) Baker of Utica; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
