Charles David Burkardt, 85, of Mendota died July 7,
2015, in his residence.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a,m. Friday in
Holy Cross Church, Mendota with the Rev. Joel Phelps officiating.
Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Sublette.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday
with a 3:30 p.m. rosary in Merritt Funeral
Home, Mendota.
Mr. Burkardt was born April 3, 1930,
in Sublette to Arthur and Marie (Jones)
Burkardt. He married Lola Botts on
Oct. 14, 1950, in Holy Cross Church.
He was a lifelong farmer in the Earlville
and Compton areas. He was a
member of the Knights of Columbus,
Catholic Order of Foresters, a past member
of Bradford Mutual Insurance
board, Elks Lodge 1212 and Lee County
Farm Bureau. He was a member of Holy Cross Church.
He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Kathleen
(Roy) Leis and Diana Rigdon, both of Jacksonville, Fla.,
Colleen Sardinsky of Basalt, Colo., and Margaret (Tony)
Rapp of Mendota; one son, Mark (Jeannie) Burkardt of La
Salle; nine grandchildren, including Joshua Rapp who was
his caregiver in his final years; numerous great-grandchildren,
nieces and nephews; four brothers, Bill (Beverly)
Burkardt of Polo, Roger (Pat) Burkardt of Vista, Calif., Ed
(Judi) Burkardt of Mendota and Tom (Marylou) Burkardt
of Dixon; and four sisters, Eileen Johannes and Rita Ray,
both of Dixon, Jane (Joe) Harris and Marilyn (Roger)
Carls, both of Peoria.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Gilbert,
Robert, Donald, John and Daniel; seven sisters, Ruth, Eunice,
Carol, Irene, Sharon, Mary and Therese; one son,
John; and five grandchildren, Holly Burkardt, Jason Rapp,
Emory Rigdon, John Burkardt, Jr. and Autumn Joy
Burkardt.
