Obituary

Charles E. "Butch" Linder, 84, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2026. He was born September 1, 1941, in Chicago, the son of Roy and Hazel (nee Carver) Linder.

Butch graduated Luther High North in Chicago and attended the University of Illinois. He enlisted in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany. After the service, he became a banker at the First National Bank of Chicago, eventually working his way up to vice president. Butch then moved to Tucker, GA and continued his work in the banking industry. In the early 80's, his parents moved in with him, and they all eventually relocated to Talladega, AL where he continued working in the banking industry as vice president with Regions Bank. Butch was a fun, generous, and loving man. He loved to collect things: Avon, cigar boxes, LP's, and ceramics. He enjoyed music and was an avid sports fan. Even though he moved to the South, he remained loyal to the Chicago Bears and White Sox and the Illini. He was a wonderful son, caring for his parents until they passed. Never having children of his own, he viewed his sister's children as his and blessed them with his time and resources. He created a a book "club" by looking for used books for the readers in the family. Family was an important focus of his life and he shared many good times with his cousins throughout the years. He was a hoot and will be greatly missed.

Butch is survived by his sister, Margie (Helmut) Kuschmann; nieces, Marianne (Bruce) Volkert and Katherine (Duane) Poole; great-nieces, Sarah (Adam) Kesser and Amanda Poole; great-nephews, Gavin Poole and Daniel Volkert; great-great nieces, Elizabeth Kesser and Abigail Kesser; and many cousins.

In addition to his parents, Butch is preceded in death by a nephew, Matthew Kuschmann.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Horner-Merritt Funeral Home, 800 Monroe Street, in Mendota with Pastor Gene Vincent officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Greenfield Cemetery in LaMoille.
