Clifford Leo Schmidt, 91, and Janet Lea Schmidt, 91 both of Mendota, passed away within three days of each other.  Cliff passed away Friday, Nov. 1st and Janet passed away Sunday, Nov. 3rd both in Mendota, IL. Cliff married Janet Brunner Oct. 4, 1952 at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Peterstown (Mendota) IL.  After all the years of marriage, building a life full of family and hard work on the farm they will be laid to rest on the same day in the very same church they were married in just over 72 years ago.  Cliff was born on the farm in Peterstown, October 17, 1933 the son of Leo and Louisa (Schneider) Schmidt and Janet was born in Mendota December 7, 1932 the daughter of Karl and Estella (Liddick) Brunner.

Cliff is preceded in death by 4 brothers: Donald, Paul, Harold and Frank Schmidt; 4 sisters: Mary Henkel, Rita Laugal, Josephine Romanelli and Flora Marie Bohm.  Janet is preceded in death by 3 brothers: Robert, Harry, and Gene Brunner.  Cliff and Janet are both also preceded in death by two grandsons: Joseph McKuin and Robert Krzmarzick.

Cliff and Janet's life was abundant with love from their large family they created.  They together are survived by 3 daughters: Debra (Rick) McKuin of Rector, AR, Connie (Pete) Krzmarzick of Plover, WI, and Donna (Dave) Carr of Havana, IL; 7 grandchildren: Amanda (Eric) Patrick, Donald (Kelly) Krzmarzick, Edward (Alexandria) Krzmarzick, Susan (Alexander) Johansson, Duane (Amanda) Carr, Daren (Julie) Carr, and Dennis (Denise) Carr; 18 great grandchildren: Mabrey and Connor Patrick, Alivia, Alyssa, Finley, and Gavin Krzmarzick, Xavier, Violet, and Remi Johansson, Cassidy, KayLynn, Andy, Katie, Lucas, Madisyn, Braden, Brooklyn, and Camden Carr.

Visitation for both Cliff and Janet Schmidt will be held from 4:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at the Horner-Merritt Funeral Home, 800 Monroe Street, Mendota, IL.  There will be a Knights of Columbus service at 8:00 PM following the visitation at the funeral home.  Funeral mass for both Cliff and Janet will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 3888 First Road, Mendota, IL.  Following the funeral mass, they will be laid to rest, side by side, at the Restland Cemetery in Mendota.  Pallbearers will Duane Carr, Daren Carr, Dennis Carr, Donald Krzmarzick, Edward Krzmarzick, and Connor Patrick.  Memorials can be made in their honor to Mendota Area Senior Services (M.A.S.S) or Holy Cross School.  Visit www.horner-merritt.com for online guestbook and video tribute.
