Constance Truty, 64, of Mendota died Dec. 6, 2011, in her home. There will be no services. A reception to celebrate her life will be at a later date. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota provided the arrangements. She was born Feb. 18, 1947, in Mendota to Robert C. and Gertrude (Sondgeroth) Phalen. She married Bill Truty on July 25, 1970, in Holy Cross Church, Mendota. She was born and raised in Mendota in her family's business, Phalen's House of Drapery. She graduated from Mendota High School in 1965 and was Sweet Corn Queen later that year. She worked in the family business while attending college toward her degree in interior design. Mrs. Truty was active in her community and the Reading is Fundamental program for many years while raising her children. Coni hung wallpaper, upholstered and decorated homes for clients out of her home until she began her career at Meyer's Furniture in 1985 where she worked until her retirement in 2007. She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Erin Truty of Mendota; two sons, Bob Truty of Mendota and Skip Truty of Kaukauna, Wis.; two sisters, Elaine (Floyd) Setchell of Mendota and Kathleen (Earl) Currie of North Oaks, Minn.; and one brother, Patrick (Elaine) Phalen of Peru. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Colleen Greenwood. Memorials may be directed to Illinois Audubon Society.
