Dale B. Fischer, 87 of Mendota passed away November 22, 2018 peacefully at home.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota with Rev. Kim Lee-Brown officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.
Dale was born September 10, 1931 in Ohio, IL to Howard and Doris (Baird) Fischer. He moved west of Mendota in 1939. He went to a country school through eighth grade. He graduated from Mendota High School in 1949. He had one brother Glen.
He married Carol Amfahr at the First United Methodist Church Mendota on January 12, 1957. They had two daughters.
Dale and Harry Phalen went into business together at Fischer & Phalen Phillips 66 gas station in November 1959. Harry later left the business but then in 1982 they became business partners again at Meriden Street Trailer Sales. He retired from there in 2000. They were business partners for over 38 years. In 2002 they won the Horace Hume Outstanding Service Award.
He was a 50 year plus member of the Mendota Moose Lodge and the Mendota Elks Lodge. He was in the Mendota Sportsmen's Club and worked with the Tri-County Fair Association for approximately 20 years.
He was very involved with collecting pop tabs to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. Thanks to the help of the community he has been able to deliver approximately 1300 lbs. of tabs to the Ronald McDonald House in Rochester, MN.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed boating, camping, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Carol of Mendota; daughter, Pam (Shaun) Bauer of Mendota; grandson, Jason (Beth) Bauer of Naperville; two great-grandchildren and five sister-in-laws.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Glen, and daughter Karen in 2005.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Ronald McDonald House, Mendota Area Senior Services, St. John's Lutheran Church or Illinois Valley Hospice.
