Obituary

Dallas Wayne Wulf, 98, of Mendota died June 21, 2010, in Mendota Lutheran Home, where he had been a resident for 1½ years. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Holy Cross Church with the Rev. Fredi Gomez-Torres officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Merritt Funeral Home , Mendota. He was born Feb. 29, 1912, at home on Flagg Street in Aurora to Clarence H. and Lillian E. (White) Wulf. He married Emily Elizabeth Finkenbinder on Dec. 21, 1935, in Aurora. He was a devoted member of Holy Cross Church for 70 years. Mr. Wulf graduated from Aurora East High School in 1930 and attended Armour Institute of Technology (now Illinois Institute of Technology) in Chicago. He worked for Burlington Railway for 40 years, most of that time as the supervisor of detector cars for the route. He was a charter member of Union Depot Railroad Museum in Mendota. He and his wife, Emily, were avid golfers and he was past-president of the Mendota Golf Club, continuing to golf until he was 90. He also was a lifelong ham radio operator and built his first radio at age 9. To his worldwide radio friends he was W9FID and was cited twice for contacting every country in the world that had a ham radio operator. He is survived by two sons, Gary Wulf of Mendota and David Wulf of Lander, Wyo.; seven grandchildren, David Wulf of Los Angeles, Calif., Bradley Wulf of Tarzana, Calif., Michael Wulf of Los Angeles, Paula Waldorf of Fort Myers, Fla., Lauri Wulf of Woodstock, Kevin Wulf of Tucson, Ariz., and Whitney Wulf of Cheyenne, Wyo.; six great-grandchildren, Jessica Wulf of Harvard, Alyssa Karcher of Woodstock, Stephanie and Johnathan Powell of Fort Myers and Dana and Emily Wulf of Los Angeles; one great-greatgranddaughter, Jade Legate of Harvard; and one sister, Marie Wulf of Mission, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years and one brother, Clarence "Bud" Wulf. Memorials may be directed to Holy Cross Church or Mendota Lutheran Home.
