Daniel C. Copper, 89, of Mendota died Feb. 4, 2011, in Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Mendota. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in First Presbyterian Church, Mendota with military rites by VFW Post 4079. The Rev. Dale Dykstra will officiate. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday with Masonic services at 7 in Merritt Funeral Home. Mr. Copper was born July 14, 1921, in Indianapolis to Coady F. and Abbie (Pavy) Copper. He married Dorothy Mellon on Dec. 16, 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy on the battleship USS Nevada during World War II. He was a salesman for Mail Pouch Tobacco from 1949 until 1985. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He also was a member of the Elks Lodge 1212, Mendota Golf Club and Mendota Masonic Lodge, of which he was a past master. Survivors include his wife of Mendota; three sons, Craig (Kathleen) Copper of Batavia, Kevin (Penny) Copper, of Lansing, Ill., and Daniel (Paula) Copper of Beloit, Wis.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother. Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church.
