Obituary

Daniel F. Kobilsek, 76, of Mendota died May 19, 2009, in his home after a sudden struggle with brain tumors. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Holy Cross Catholic Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Fredi Gomez Torres officiating. Burial will be at St. Vincent's Cemetery, La Salle. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Mr. Kobilsek was born Aug. 17, 1932, in La Salle to Frank and Stephanie (Klopcic) Kobilsek. He married Rose Ann Fitzgerald on June 27, 1959, in Dimmick. After graduating La Salle- Peru Township High School in 1951 and attending La Salle-Peru-Oglesby Junior College, he served with the U.S. Army. He worked at Caterpillar in Aurora for 32 years, retiring in 1992. He was a volunteer at Holy Cross Church on lawn and garden projects. He was a member of Holy Cross Church, Mendota Elks Lodge and Mendota Knights of Columbus. His woodworking projects were popular items at charity auctions in the Mendota area. He is survived by his wife, Rose Ann; four sons, Frank (Anita) Kobilsek of Mendota, Tom Kobilsek of Troy Grove, Dan (Amy) Kobilsek of Mendota and Bill Kobilsek of Mendota; one daughter, Kathy Lang of Mendota; four grandchildren, Kourtney Kobilsek, Kassidy Kobilsek, Kaitlyn Kobilsek and Curt Lang; one sister, Fran Larson of Bloomington; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be directed to Holy Cross parish, Holy Cross School or American Cancer Society.
