Darlene H. Spriet, 92, passed away on August 18, 2021 at Heritage Health in Mendota.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 27, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with Reverend Susan Presley officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mendota immediately following the funeral.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service.

Darlene was born June 27, 1929 to Theodore and Wilhelmina (Sondgeroth) Becker. She was raised the eldest of five children on the family farm in Peterstown.  She married Frank Spriet on October 5, 1957 at St. Peter and Paul Church in Peterstown. He preceded her in death on April 29, 1980.

Darlene had been employed at the Trouser Factory and Sam's Steak House in Mendota before obtaining her degree in Accounting from IVCC.  She then simultaneously worked as a tax preparer, as well as a bookkeeper, for Becker Automotive, from 1973-2015, when she fully retired at the age of 85.

She is survived by her four children, Jean Eich of LaMoille, Julie (Steve) Szigeti, Danny (Dawn) Spriet, and Connie Buchanan all of Mendota; her sister Sylvia Leffelman of Sublette, her brother Don (Maureen) Becker of Geneseo and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Rich Becker, sister in law Cheryl "Chick" Becker, her brother in law Gerald Leffelman, her sister Joyce Gillan of Cherry, and two special sons in law Brian Eich and Marv Buchanan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mendota Area Senior Services or the staff of Heritage Health in Mendota.
