David John Sprung, 39, of La Moille, IL, passed away Monday, February 3, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family after a valiant four year battle with cancer, surprising his doctors again and again. David was born in Council Bluffs, IA on a beautiful sunny day July 2, 1985, to Michael and Lori (Lockwood) Sprung. He was the oldest of three boys.

David graduated from Amboy High School in 2004, Sauk Valley Community College, in 2006 and then Western Illinois University in 2010, receiving his master's degree in History in 2010. From the time he was very young, David loved to read and collect Farmall and International tractors. David was an animal enthusiast. He and his brothers raised and showed Angus cattle in FFA and 4-H. He received his state degree from FFA while in high school. He had a passion for woodworking and would craft wood, build houses, and furniture. This passion led him to work for Joe Flessner Construction since high school.He later would become the Director of the Ohio Library District, where he was able to put his love of history and reading, especially about sports, to better use. David was a die hard St. Louis Cardinals fan, making a trip to Busch Stadium every year to watch his favorite baseball team. His vehicles had to be Chevys, nothing else.

David was a responsible, kind, and generous person, even during times when he was enduring much pain. He could best be described as altruistic, looking out for everyone and making sure no one was left out. He was a loving caretaker and much loved brother, uncle, son, and grandson. He loved spending time with family and friends, often spoiling his niece and nephews. It was the simple pleasures in life that brought David true joy.

David is survived by his parents, Mike and Lori Sprung, of La Moille; brothers, Cory (Lauren) Sprung of Greenfield, IL and Ethan Sprung of West Des Moines, IA; niece, Sadie Sprung and nephews, Sawyer Sprung and Shea Sprung; grandmothers, Joann Lockwood of Oakland, IA and Sylvia Sprung of La Moille, IL; and his beloved furry friends, his dog, Lacy and cat, Tugger.

David is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Ronnie Lockwood and Fred Sprung.

David's family would like to express gratitude to the nurses and staff who cared for him at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City and OSF St. Clare Hospital in Princeton.

A celebration of life for David will be held from 12-4 P.M. Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the La Moille Lions Club Building, 308 Howard Street, in La Moille. To best honor David's memory, the family believes he would simply want people to be kind to one another.
