Obituary
Delphine C. Dalton, 87, of Mendota passed away Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Heritage Health, Mendota.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota with Rev. Susan Presley officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 p.m., at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.
Delphine was born November 15, 1931 in Mendota to Paul and Elda (Stamberger) Bauer. She married Robert Dalton May 29, 1954 in Fontanelle, Iowa.
Del graduated with high honors from LaMoille High School and was DAR receipent. She served as sectional President of the Future Homemakers of America. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed. She served on the altar guild and was secretary of the church council. She also served as a greeter, reader and usher for many years. In 1993 she was elected Mendota Township Supervisor and served in that position until she became ill. She was a member of the Township Officials of Illinois and past member of Business of Professional Women. Prior to her marriage she was employed at H.D. Hume Co. In 1962 she began working for LaSalle News Tribune first as a correspondent and later as bureau chief of the Mendota News Tribune office. She retired in 1992. Del and her late husband were among the founding committee of the Mendota Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. She and Mrs. Gerald Walter and Mrs. Bruce Beattie founded, owned and operated Heartland Treasure's antique mart. Among her favorite hobbies were attending auctions, flea markets and collecting antiques while on family vacations. She particularly enjoyed traveling to Arizona and New Mexico.
She is survived by her son Dennis Dalton of Greenville, Texas; one daughter Christie Dalton of Rockton; two grandsons Joseph Dalton and Cruz Marquis; one granddaughter Janelle; three great grandsons Caden Dalton, Kenneth Dalton and Emmett Dalton; two great granddaughters Valenzyia and Ameris and her special friend Pat Rich.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1997, and a granddaughter Ashley Ford.
