Dollie M. Bauer, 80, of Compton died May 8, 2010, in Mendota Community Hospital. A private graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation is 2:30-4:30 p.m. today in Mendota Civic Center. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, provided the arrangements. She was born May 28, 1929, in Ada, Minn., to Scotty and Alice (Gabriel) Miller. She married Albert Bauer. She received her certification in quality control from Perdue University and was a quality control supervisor for Van De Camps where she supervised 200 food testing technologists. She also was manager of Coast to Coast Hardware in Rochelle for many years. Following her marriage to Albert Bauer, she became involved in raising livestock and farming. Mrs. Bauer was the first woman in Illinois to serve as a Democrat precinct committee captain. She is survived by three brothers, Scott Miller, Richard Miller and Elwood Miller, all of California; one sister, Joyce Camillo of California; one half brother, James Brown; one stepdaughter, Betty Avery of Mendota; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990. Memorials may be directed to Mendota Moose Lodge or Compton United Methodist Church.
