Donald R. Chambers, 82, of Mendota died Sept. 17, 2009, in his residence. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Merritt Funeral Home in Mendota with the Rev. Betty Delgado officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery with military rites by Mendota VFW Post 4079. Visitation is one hour prior to services Monday in the funeral home. He was born Aug. 20, 1927, in Peru to John and Sophie (Pikul) Chambers. He married Leona (Lipka) Harris on July 1, 1983, in Pueblo, Colo. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He was employed as a crane operator by CF & I Steel in Pueblo, Colo. He is survived by his wife; one son, Roger Chambers of Mendota; two stepsons, Brian (Deborah) Harris of Amboy and Karl (Claire) Harris of Dixon; one stepdaughter, Sherry (Doug) Setchell of Washington state; 10 grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; one brother, John (Betty) Chambers of Peru; and one sister, Shirley Novitski of Iowa. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Memorials may be directed to Trinity United Church of Christ in La Salle.
