Donald W. Oberlander, 96, of Mendota died May 23, 2016, in Heritage Health, Mendota.
A memorial Mass will be at 10:30a.m. Tuesday in Holy Cross Church with the Rev. Bo Schmitt officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mendota with military rites by Mendota VFW Post 4079.

Don was born Jan. 25, 1920, in Mendota to Clarence and Ochel (Haines) Oberlander. He married Eleanor Nealand on Nov. 9, 1941, in Hannibal, Mo. He was a member of Holy Cross Church. He was a 1938 graduate of Mendota High School.
He served with the U.S. Army 96th Division in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 4079, a past commander of the Post in 1951-1952 and again in 1975-1976. He was a founding member of VFW Post 4079 Memorial Squad. He was a past commander of the VFW 9th District and a past commander of VFW County Council.
He was employed by Black Bros. Co. in Mendota for 44 years and retired in 1983 with the title of purchasing manager.
He is survived by nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife on March 15, 2011, and four sisters.
