Donald Rich, 95, of Mendota Lutheran Home died March 30, 2008, in the home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. Maryann Meador officiating. Burial will be at Troy Grove Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Mr. Rich was born Sept. 30, 1912, in Forest River, N.D., to Clarence H. and Martha M. (Smith) Rich. He married Lela Marie Mann on Nov. 2, 1940, in Muscatine, Iowa. He was a charter member of Troy Grove Grange and was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mendota. He was a lifelong farmer and also worked at Stephenitch Implement dealership, later the hardware store, and also worked a short time at Hart-Carter. He and his wife owned and operated the Rich?s U-Pick Strawberry Patch at their farm near Troy Grove for 14 years. After his parents died in the 1918 flu epidemic, he was raised by his grandparents. He is survived by four sons, Donald (Margo) Rich of Springfield, Loren (Suzanne) Rich of Mendota, Gary (Cathy) Rich of Lena and Delbert (Michelle) Rich of La Salle; one daughter, Nancy (Roger) Daniels of Osakis, Minn.; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on Feb. 23, 1998; and two brothers. Memorials may be directed to Mendota Lutheran Home.
