Donald C. Salander, 89, of Mendota died March 13, 2009, in Mendota Community Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. Dale Dykstra officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota, with military rites by VFW Post 4079. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mr. Salander was born May 31, 1919, in Sandwich to Charles and Blanche (Lincoln) Salander. He married Lois Setchell. He was a 1938 graduate of Mendota High School. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Mendota, VFW Post 4079 and Elks Lodge 1212. He was employed by Wayside Press in Mendota prior to his retirement. He is survived by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife in July 1973; one son in infancy and one brother.
