Obituary

Donald E. Stallings, 76, of Mendota died May 22, 2008, in Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Mendota. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Merritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Julie Bunt officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota, with military rites by VFW Post 4079. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Stallings was born Nov. 27, 1931, in Charleston, Mo., to Golden and Hazel (Stuart) Stallings. He married Bertah Eager on July 26, 1952, in Sandwich. He served in the Korean War with the U.S. Army. He farmed in the Earlville area before moving to Mendota in the mid-1960s. He was employed by Motor Wheel Corp. in Mendota as a foreman until his retirement. He was a member of VFW Post 4079. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Carol (Ronald) Winner of Gridley and Penny (Andrew) Miller of LaMoille; three sons, Thornton (Beth) Stallings of Mendota,William (Cindy) Stallings of Pasadena, Md., and Steve (Brenda) Stallings of West Brooklyn; 16 grandchildren; 14 greatgrandchildren; one brother, Albert Stallings of Missouri; and one sister, Mary Frances Marshall of Missouri. He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. Memorials may be directed to the family.
