Donna P. Mosher, 89 of Bloomington and formerly of Mendota died June 1, 2019 at the McLean County Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with Rev. Joel Stevenor officiating. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Donna was born December 19, 1929 in Sublette, the daughter of Frank and Ruth Prescott. She married William V. Mosher on October 3, 1954 in Mendota.
Donna received a B.A. from the University of Nebraska and an M.S. from Northern Illinois University. She taught Physical Education at LaSalle-Peru High School, taught at Franklin Jr. High School and Centennial High School in Champaign Unit 4. She retired in 1985 to Shelbyville where she substituted in several area schools.
Donna was actively involved in volunteer work, primarily American Red Cross Aquatics, First Aid and Blood Drives for which she received numerous awards and her 50 year pin. In 1951 she and a co-volunteer were instrumental in organizing a disability swimming program for the YWCA in Lincoln, NE, for polio victims, which was refined and adopted by the American Red Cross. She taught swimming and life saving for 34 years and was an instructor/trainer at National Aquatic Schools. She served as Red Cross Chapter Chairperson for Safety Programs in Champaign County for 12 years and Shelbyville for 5 years. She served on the Champaign County Urban League Board for 6 years, and was a member and President of the Central Illinois Antique Dealers Association while living in Bloomington.
Donna was a lifelong Presbyterian and served as an Elder and Elder Commissioner to the Presbytery while with the First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville. She was a Daughter of the American Revolution and recently received recognition as a 70 year member from the Leticia Green Stevenson Chapter.
Donna was an eternal optimist and loved to have fun. She loved her family and enjoyed gardening, fishing, auctions, antiquing, U of I and ISU basketball, and the local music scene.
Survivors include daughter Jane (Jeff) Turley, grandsons James and Jacob Turley of Bloomington and sister-in-law Helga Prescott of Mendota.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a brother, William Prescott.
