Obituary

Doris Mae Beetz, 90, of Mendota died Oct. 17, 2010, in Mendota Community Hospital after a long struggle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Zion United Methodist Church , Mendota, with the Rev. Glenn Stewart officiating . Interment will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. She was born Feb. 14, 1920, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Ida A. and Leon H. Beardsley. She married to Paul F. Beetz on Aug. 3, 1941, in Mendota. For nearly 60 years, Mrs. Beetz was an active member of Zion United Methodist Church in Mendota, singing joyfully in the choir and offering her flower arrangements for the altar. On the farm, her life's work was to provide loving support to Paul and their children. Her faith was the bedrock and inspiration to those who knew her. Her family will remember her love of gardening, competitive game-playing, and molasses cookies. Doris and Paul traveled in the United States, Brazil, Ghana, Ecuador, Mexico, and China. Wherever they went, they were ambassadors of their Christian faith and agriculture. Survivors include her six children, Leslie (Richard) Althaus of Mendota, Alice Beetz of Fayetteville, Ark., Martha Fouts of Mendota, Stephen Beetz of Mendota, Barbara (David) Melchiorre of Wilmette and Sally Raccuglia of Boulder, Colo.; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in deathby her husband on Aug. 16, 2008, and two older brothers. Memorials may be directed to Zion United Methodist Church, the Foods Resource Bank (in care of Zion United Methodist Church) or the donor's choice.
