Doris Lorraine Meznarich,
93, of Dimmick Township
died May 23, 2014, in
Mendota Lutheran Home.
Funeral services will be at
11 a.m. Wednesday in Merritt
Funeral Home, Mendota with
the Rev. Michael Morrell
officiating. Burial will be at
Forest Lawn Cemetery, La
Salle.
Visitation will be one hour
prior to services Wednesday
at the funeral home.
Doris was born Oct. 18,
1920, in Ophir Township
to Lester Davis and Emily
(Cuthbertson) Davis. She
married Henry Meznarich on
Oct. 12, 1947, in La Salle.
She was a homemaker and
farm wife. She was a member
of the Illinois Farm Bureau
and former member of Illinois
Arabian Horse Association
and Illinois Thoroughbred
Association. She grew strawberries
which she sold locally.
During World War II
she worked at Green River
Ordnance Plant in Amboy
assembling ammunition. She
was injured when a grenade
exploded near where she was
working. She was granted a
pilot's license and had her
own plane prior to marriage.
She is survived by three
daughters, Donna Meznarich,
Ranelle Meznarich and Holly
(Mike) Bickham; her son,
James (Betty) Meznarich;
grandchildren Stephanie
Bickham, Julie Gerhardt,
Jennifer Foster and Beth
Sutherland; and nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her husband; one brother,
Glen; and one daughter,
Lynette.
