Doris Ilene Miller, 80, of
Mendota died July 2, 2013.
A memorial service will be
at 4 p.m. Sunday in St. John's
Lutheran Church, Mendota.
A graveside commemoration
will be at 11 a.m. Monday at
Restland Cemetery, Mendota.
Visitation is 1-3:30 p.m.

Doris
was born
Jan. 10,
1933, in
Marion
Township,
Ogle
County to
Ralph and Lucille Hays. She
grew up on a farm family
among six siblings. At a roller
skating rink in Rochelle, she
met Howard George Miller
of Mendota. They married on
Nov. 29, 1952.
Doris was a 56-year member
of St. John's Lutheran
Church and particularly
enjoyed singing with
her friends in the church's
Singing Mothers ensemble.
She could always be found
in the auditorium at her son's
and daughter's school performances
and in the stands at
her daughter's tennis meets.
Her grandchildren and the
rest of the extended family
could count on her enthusiastic
presence as well.
A sociable woman with
a dry sense of humor, she
treasured visits with friends
and family, particularly her
grandchildren. She kept the
postal service busy delivering
the many cards and letters
she sent to this large circle of
people.
Doris handled the business
side of her husband's small
trucking business and later
joined friends in a painting
and wallpapering service.
Doris is survived by her
husband, Howard of Mendota;
her children and their spouses,
Daryl (Daniel Gaines)
Miller of Santa Monica,
Calif., and Diane (Tom)
Cessna of Bloomington; her
grandchildren, Alexandra
and Ian Cessna; and siblings,
Veda May Cole of Rochelle,
Wilmer Hays of Libertyville
and Laverne Hays of
Orfordville, Wis.
She was preceded in death
by her siblings, Eugene Hays,
Merilyn Hoffman and Merlin
Hays.
Memorials may be sent to
the family for charitable distribution.
