Doris A. Studstill, 72, of rural Mendota died Aug. 29, 2007, in Illinois Valley Community Hospital, Peru. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Maryann Meador officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded with burial at a later date. Visitation is one hour prior to services in the church on Saturday. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, provided the arrangements. She was born July 7, 1935, in Walker County, Ala., to Coleman and Mildred (Beasley) Atkins. She married Lamar Studstill on Jan. 1, 1954, in Warner Robins, Ga. Mrs. Studstill was a graduate of Warner Robins High School and received her bachelor of science degree from Georgia College. She worked as an engineer for Bell South Telephone for more than 20 years before retiring in 1989 to work full time in the family radio business. She had been a part-owner of several radio stations in Georgia and for the last 16 years she lived in Illinois where she was part-owner of the Radio Group Stations, WALS-FM, WBZG-FM, WGLC-FM, WIVQ-FM, WSTQ-FM, WYYS-FM, and WSPLAM. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mendota, United Methodist Women at the church, and Friends of the Library in Mendota. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Lee (Melinda) of Peru and Cole (Kim) of Mendota; two granddaughters; one brother, John (Beulah) Atkins of Woodstock, Ga.; and one sister, Patricia Matthews of Atlanta, Ga. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorials may be directed to her church, Illinois Valley Animal Rescue or Friends of Strays.
