Dorothy H. Nickel, 96, of Footville, Wisconsin and former Van Orin, IL resident died December 20, 2015 at her home. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, December 27th at 1:00p.m., in Van Orin Repose Cemetery. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota is assisting the family with the arrangements. Dorothy was born January 10, 1919 to John and Charlotte (Cranston) Eiberger. She married Bert J. Nickel on August 2, 1941 in Mendota. She served for 22 years as a cook at Allen Grade School in LaMoille before retiring in 1977. She enjoyed painting and quilting. She and her husband were caretakers at Bache Memorial Chapel in Van Orin for 22 years. She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Anderson; three grandchildren; Sherry (Anderson) Thostenson, Todd (Gretchen) Anderson and Shalem (Danielle) Sadewater; six great-grandchildren; Thomas, Sarah and Rachael Thostenson, Abbigale, Hanna Anderson, Shala Sadewater; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her husband, Bert, of 64 years and four brothers: Leonard, Richard, Leroy and Earl. Memorials may be directed to Shriners Childrens Hospital.
