Duane W. Fassig, 88, of Mendota, passed away, Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at OSF St. Paul Medical Center, Mendota.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota with Vicar Anthony Windau officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota is handling arrangements.

Duane was born April 14, 1935 in Mendota to Milton and Marge (Bieser) and lived in the Mendota area all his life. He married Peggy Rider on May 12, 1957 at the First United Methodist Church in Mendota. They later joined St. John's Lutheran Church.

Duane was a 1953 graduate of Mendota High School. He worked and retired from Mendota Farmers CoOp, as a petroleum salesman for 42 years.  He enjoyed his customers especially since he raised and showed pigs growing up. Duane enjoyed spending time with his family and sports, especially the Cubs and Bears and his coffee mornings at Ziggies Restaurant.

Duane is survived by his children, Debora (Don) Black of LaSalle, Kevin (Karen) Fassig of Mendota and Keith (Laura) Fassig of Earlville; four grandchildren Jim Black, Bill (Lindsey) Fassig,  Beth (Zach) Kasper and Jonathan Martin; great grandchildren Landon Schmidt, Charlotte Fassig, Kade, Izzy, Jackson and Remy Kasper; two brothers, Norm (Joyce) Fassig and Lynn (Lynne) Fassig and many nieces and nephews and cousins
He was preceded in death his parents, his wife Peggy in 1998, friend Darlene Rose, brother and sister in law John and Betty Fassig

Pallbearers will be grandchildren and nephews.
