Dr. E. Allen DeWeerth, 78, of Mendota died Dec. 15, 2010, in Mendota Lutheran Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Dale Peterson officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to services in the church sanctuary on Saturday. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, provided the arrangements. He was born Feb. 23, 1932, in Peoria to Jacob and Foley (Harms) DeWeerth. He married Joan L. Oltman on Dec. 30, 1956. He attended Peoria High School and received a bachelor of science degree from Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa, in 1956. He served two years with the U.S. Army. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a doctor of dental surgery degree. He set up a dental practice in Mendota that same year, where he practiced dentistry until retiring in 2004. He was a member of Mendota Rotary Club for more than 40 years and directed the foreign exchange program for 25 years. He was a member and president of Mendota Elementary School Board of Education; and was a member of Illinois Valley Dental Society, serving as secretary-treasurer for 25 years. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Mendota where he was a member of the church council and Sunday school superintendent. He is survived by his wife, Joan of Mendota; one son, Stephen DeWeerth of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; one daughter, Suzanne Archer of Wonder Lake; eight grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Orville, Raymond and Eugene. Memorials may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church or the Mendota Lutheran Home.
