Obituary

Earl J. Buettner, 80, of Sublette Township died Feb. 18, 2008, in Mendota Community Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John?s Lutheran Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Dale Peterson officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Mr. Buettner was born June 30, 1927, in Sublette to Raymond and Edna (Geuther) Buettner. He married Norma Mathesius on Aug. 23, 1953, in St. John?s Lutheran Church. He was a member of St. John?s Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and also as an usher. He was past president of Mendota Farmers Co-op board and was a member of Lee County Pork Producers, Farm Bureau and Bureau County Livestock Association. He was past president of Lee County Cattlemen?s Association. He farmed in the Sublette and Mendota areas and was associated with Joe Myers in farm operations. He served with the U.S. Army in Korea and Japan during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife; two sisters, Geraldine (Harold) Sauer of Mendota and Lois Faber of LaMoille; two brothers, Clayton (Lucille) Buettner of Mendota and Wayne (Linda) Buettner of Kings; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother. Memorials may be directed to St. John?s Lutheran Church, Mendota Lutheran Home or the donor?s choice.
