Edward D. Burkardt, 76, of Mendota died March 16, 2017, in Northwest Healthcare, Tucson, Ariz.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Holy Cross Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Peter Pilon officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Sublette with military rites by VFW Post 4079.
Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.
Ed was born Feb. 10, 1941, in Sublette to Arthur and Dorothy (Lipps) Burkardt. He married Judi Bailey on Dec. 23, 1967, in Peoria.
He was a member of Holy Cross Church, Elks Lodge 1212, Mendota Golf Club, Catholic Order of Foresters and Knights of Columbus.
He was a graduate of Amboy High School and served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Ed was a mail carrier with Mendota Post Office for more than 30 years. He was a lifelong Cubs fan, and those attending his services are welcome to wear their Cubs gear.
During the winter months, Ed and Judi enjoyed spending time in Tucson.
He is survived by his wife, Judi of Mendota; one son, Scott (Traci) Burkardt of Machesney Park; one grandson, Colin; three brothers, Bill (Beverly) Burkardt of Polo, Roger (Pat) Burkardt of Vista, Calif., and Tom (Mary Lou) Burkardt of Dixon; three sisters, Eileen Johannes of Dixon, Jane (Joe) Harris and Marilyn (Roger) Carls both of Peoria; a brother-in-law, Ron (Jeanne) Bailey and a sister-in-law, Marilyn (George) Meiner; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, Bob, Gilbert, John, Charles, Don and Dan; six sisters, Irene, Ruth, Rita, Eunice, Carol and Sharon.
Memorials in his memory may be directed to Holy Cross Church, Holy Cross School or American Heart Association.
