Edith Della Emma (Meyer) Fischer, 93, of Lenexa, Kan., and formerly of Mendota was carried to heaven at 9:08 a.m. Feb. 27, 2012, in Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Shawnee, Kan., following complications from a stroke. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Zion Lutheran Church of Clarion, LaMoille, with the Rev. Kevin Weeks officiating. Internment will be at Van Orin Repose Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. She was born Oct. 28, 1918, in LaMoille to Alwin William and Elva Christina (Billhorn) Meyer. She married Marvin C. Fischer on Feb. 11, 1942, in Ohio, Ill. She lived her life in Mendota where she was a devoted wife and mother, raising five children while working on the family farm. She also worked as a waitress at Sam's Steak House for many years. She moved to Lenexa four years ago to be with her son, Ron, and some of her grandchildren, and because she loved it there. She also loved her family, her sisters, her flowers, and most importantly, God. She is survived by her children, Richard (Nancy) Fischer of Phoenix, Ariz., Ronald Fischer of Olathe, Kan., Raymond (Claire) Fischer of Mendota, Debra (Robert) Sweeney of Fox River Grove and William Fischer of Waterloo, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Edna Giacomelli of Ladd and Dorothy Boers of Peru. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin C. Fischer, in 1988; and her brother, Alwin in 1958. Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church of Clarion.
