Edward M. Lauer, 85, of Mendota passed away peacefully Aug. 20, 2017, in Heritage Health Nursing Home, Mendota.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Holy Cross Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Peter Pilon officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mendota with military rites by VFW Post 4079.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday with a rosary to follow the visitation in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.
Mr. Lauer was born Dec. 6, 1931, in Sublette to Amor and Isadore (Dwyer) Lauer. He married Roberta Amfahr on June 28, 1958.
Edward attended Amboy High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He graduated from St. Ambrose University and was an office manager at Black Bros. Co. in Mendota for 40 years. He was a member of VFW Post 4079.
Edward was a Eucharistic minister at Holy Cross Church and served as a member of the Holy Cross School board. Edward and his wife, Roberta, also were active in Marriage Encounter. In addition to attending various sporting events in support of his family, Ed was an active walker, avid reader and loved watching his Green Bay Packers.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta; three sons, Larry (Lauri) Lauer, Mike Lauer, and Scott (Wendy) Lauer; two daughters, Diane (Doug) Barr and Mary (Frank) Rottman; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Sister Mary Lavon Lauer.
Memorials may be directed to Holy Cross School or Heritage Health Nursing Home.
